John Witherspoon Gives Keynote at Jobs for Maine's Graduates Initiation and Installation Ceremony
SKOWHEGAN, Maine - John Witherspoon, president and CEO of Skowhegan Savings, gave the keynote
address on October 29, 2009 for the students at the Jobs
for Maine's Graduates' (JMG) annual Initiation and Installation
Ceremony. The ceremony was held at Carrabec High School,
in North Anson.
"At Skowhegan Savings, we're very committed to financial literacy and economic
development. We see this program as helping achieve
those two goals, as it provides educational programs
that mold the workforce of tomorrow," stated Witherspoon. "JMG is a great program and we're proud to have donated $2,500 to the organization,
as well as the proceeds from two of our ongoing workshops
for small businesses in Central Maine. I was honored
to give the keynote and look forward to these students
embracing the opportunities JMG will offer. "
The student-led Carrabec Career Association
of JMG host the Initiation and Installation
Ceremony each year. This is the formal
induction of the students into the
JMG high school program. The students
were responsible for the entire event
and hosted a dinner for attendees.
JMG's mission is to identify students who face barriers to education, and to guide each one on to a successful path toward continued education, a meaningful career, and productive adulthood. JMG provides students who are at risk of disengaging from school the skills and motivation needed to succeed in higher education and the workforce. The Jobs for Maine's Graduates high school program is delivered as a for-credit course in conjunction with the student's regular course load. Hosted at public schools, administered by JMG, and actively engaging the participation of businesses, JMG offers a venue for students to interact with employers and community-based organizations.
