Skowhegan Savings Honored by the Maine Children's Trust

AUGUSTA, Maine – On Tuesday, May 5, Karen Hart, Skowhegan Savings' Assistant Vice President and Marketing Officer, accepted the Maine Children's Trust Business Collaborator award on behalf of the bank. The Maine Children’s Trust is the statewide non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect. It works to create a brighter future for Maine children. Skowhegan Savings was one of five recipients of the 2009 Maine Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Awards.

"I am proud of the work Skowhegan Savings has done to support our communities' children. Through our employees’ ongoing volunteerism in many youth activities and the bank’s support of many programs that support youth, Skowhegan Savings continues to be a leader in this area. Our employees volunteer
thousands of hours annually in support of youth programs which goes hand in hand with our mission of making our communities a better place to live,” said Hart.

“I would like to congratulate Karen and all the dedicated employees of the bank who are devoted to the
cause of making our communities a better place for young people,” stated John Witherspoon, president
and CEO of Skowhegan Savings.

The Business Collaborator award is for a local business in recognition of the fact that community-based prevention values meaningful support from the business community. Skowhegan Savings has been dedicated to strengthening Maine families, business and the communities it serves since 1869. Through America’s Promise – The Alliance for Youth, a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives our nation’s youth, Skowhegan Savings as a supporter of the alliance, became a sponsor of the Family Enrichment Council in 2005. Skowhegan Savings was one of the first businesses to provide monetary support, as well as staff volunteers, for the Somerset County’s Family Enrichment Council’s prevention awareness event held each April.
